Luvuyo Mbundu, baritone, grew up in Khayelitsha Township in the Western Cape. He started singing at school and continued as an ad-hoc singer for the Cape Town Opera, before enrolling at UCT Opera School, where he is currently a final year student. Mbundu has appeared in a number of UCT productions, and is a multi-award winner including 1st Prize/ Audience Award of the Schock Foundation Prize for singing in 2017. He also participated in the 2017 Les Azuriales International Opera Program in Nice, France, and is through to the final rounds of the 11th International Vocal Competition of Gabriela Benackova for Opera Singers, Jihlava 2018, Czech Republic competition taking place this coming October.

 

Lisa Engelbrecht, pianist, is the principal vocal coach at the Opera School of the SA College of Music at the University of Cape Town, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and singing from UCT in 1990. She studied further at the Conservatorio, Milan, where she obtained the Diploma di Perfezzionamento. From 1998–2001, Engelbrecht held positions as operatic vocal coach / repetiteur / accompanist at the British Youth Opera, London; Opera National du Rhin, Strasbourg; Renata Scotto Academy, Italy; Merola Opera Program, San Francisco; and Glimmerglass Opera, New York. She obtained her Master of Music degree in 2002, from the University of Illinois, and returned to South Africa as vocal coach / repetiteur of the Cape Town Opera until 2008, going on to complete her Doctor of Music degree that same year. Lisa is also musical director of the Opera in Darling, presenting 'Alla breve Mozart opera', which has toured extensively in South Africa and abroad. She performs regularly in recitals in the Southern African region, and is a member of the guest coaching faculty at the Royal College of Music and the International Lyric Academy in Italy.

Véronique Zuël, soprane mauricienne, se produit  sur les scènes locales et internationales. Son répertoire varié comprend des rôles lyriques ainsi que des prestations dans l’évènementiel pour les oratorios, mariages, concerts, festivals et autres occasions prestigieuses.

  Elle étudie le chant en Angleterre et parmi ses contrats décrochés par la suite, nous pouvons citer les rôles suivants :

Maria (Westside story) – La comtesse, Suzanna  (Les noces de Figaro) – Gilda (Rigoletto) – Mimi (La Bohème) – Norina ( Don Pasquale) – Adele (Die Fledermaus) – Micaëla (Carmen)….Elle se perfectionne sous la tutelle de Jean Bernard Thomas à l’île de la Réunion.

  Le public mauricien a la chance de l’entendre interpréter les rôles principaux dans les pièces telles que Rési (Valses de Vienne) – Mi (Pays du Sourire) – Leila (Pêcheurs de Perles) – Micaëla (Carmen) – Violetta (La Traviata) – Dido (Dido et Aenae) - Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers).

Elle marie le lyrique au séga dans un nouveau style, ou elle prend plaisir à chanter dans sa langue maternelle lors de Festivals Créoles. Invitée par les Archets de Paris (ensemble de musique de chambre) elle présente la création des œuvres du Chevalier de St Georges.

  Elle a travaillé sous la direction de Brad Cohen, Martin Wettges, Brian Schimmel, Gregor Mayhofer,entre autres. Ses participations aux productions mises en scène l’ont été pour European Chamber Opera, Opera Mauritius, Friends of OperArts, La Société musicale de l’île Maurice, Impact, Art Academy, Move for Art, Omada, la FIFA, Bidvest.

  Certains se souviendront de son récital “Clairs Hiers” (Poèmes de Robert Edward Hart mis en musique) avec Denis Lesage en 2006. En Février 2015, ils sont de nouveau complices pour  “Nuances d’une Heure Exquise”. Pour Véronique, c’est aussi une suite à son concert ”A Touch of Opera” donné en Aout 2014 à Melbourne au cours duquel elle fut accompagnée par Hoang Pham.

  En 2016 elle poursuit son orientation de récitals a thèmes avec ‘’Soirée Mozart’’ accompagnée de nouveau par Denis Lesage(Juillet). Auparavant accompagnée par Olivier David (Avril) elle donne un récital de musique variées (Piaf,Legrand,Houston) dans ‘A Trip to Romance’.  A l’occasion de la visite du président malgache à Maurice pour la fête de l’indépendance, elle présente, lors d’une soirée, des extraits d’opéra, accompagnée de Kenneth Babajie. Il l’accompagne de nouveau le 24 Décembre pour un ‘Noël Romantique’ à l’hôtel Belle Mare Plage.

Janvier 2017 la voit participer au concert ‘’ Echoes of the Stage ‘’ accompagnée par Paul Wilmot et au spectacle du nouvel an chinois (tenu au J&J Auditorium) ou elle chante en mandarin.

Denis Lesage, pianiste anglo-mauricien, détient la Médaille d’Or de piano du Conservatoire National de Région de Rueil-Malmaison, une Maîtrise de Musique de Paris-Sorbonne ainsi que le Diplôme d’État de Professeur de Piano (Culture et Communication, France).

  Il est lauréat de l’Examen Professionnel au grade d’Assistant Spécialisé d’Enseignement Artistique des collectivités territoriales françaises.

  Lors de deux concerts à Maurice en 2006 – aux côtés de Véronique Zuël-Bungaroo - il avait interprété en solo et fait ainsi découvrir Simple Aveu du grand compositeur et mélodiste mauricien Francis Thomé.

  Son travail d’écriture en français compte deux recueils de poésie publiés ainsi que d’ouvrages de littérature et de musique sur les artistes mauriciens Robert-Edward Hart et Francis Thomé, à paraître, et aussi d’un article de musique (Perlemuter et Chopin) déjà paru chez Champion, Paris.

Maxime Zecchini, pianist, intègre le Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon dans la classe de Géry Moutier et Danièle Renaud-Fasquelle, où le Diplôme National dʼÉtudes Supérieures Musicales - DNESM – mention très bien à lʼunanimité et félicitations du jury - lui est attribué en juin 2001.

  Il est reçu par la suite au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris en Cycle de Perfectionnement dans la classe de Jean-François Heisser. Premier français à être diplômé de la prestigieuse Académie «Incontri col Maestro» dʼImola en Italie, il a été lauréat-boursier de la Vocation Bleustein-Blanchet,  de la Fondation Meyer, du Mécénat Société Générale; vainqueur du Concours international d’Arcachon, Premier Prix à lʼunanimité du Concours du Forum de Normandie, lauréat de la Fondation Cziffra, lauréat du Concours Ragusa-Ibla en Sicile, et il a obtenu en 2003 le Premier Prix à l’unanimité du Concours international de Varenna-Lac de Côme en Italie.

 Il sʼest produit à Paris (Salle Gaveau, Théâtre du Châtelet, Salle Cortot, Théâtre Marigny,...) et dans le cadre de nombreux festivals et concerts en France, Italie, Autriche, Allemagne, en tournées en Angleterre, Corée du Sud, Chine, Japon, Mongolie, Polynésie française, Afrique du Sud, Kenya, Ouganda, Zambie, Zimbabwe, Djibouti...).

 Son activité discographique comprend une Anthologie en 10 Cd à venir ( dont les cinq premiers volumes sont déjà sortis ) des oeuvres pour la main gauche ( piano solo, concertos pour piano et musique de chambre ) sous le label Advitam Records et distribuée dans le monde entier par Harmonia Mundi.

 Lʼun de ses derniers enregistrements parus a reçu la distinction 4 FFFF dans Télérama. Il est passé et a été interviewé sur de nombreuses radios françaises et étrangères (France Musique, Radio Classique, France Inter,...) ainsi quʼà la télévision. Musicien éclectique, il a orchestré des partitions pour la télévision, dirigé des comédies musicales ou donné des récitals avec la chanteuse Julia Migenes ou des concerts-lecture avec l'actrice Anouk Aimée.

 Compositeur, il est lʼauteur de nombreuses œuvres et transcriptions, et est édité chez les Editions Durand-Salabert-Universal Music pour le recueil pédagogique  pour étudiants «Piano Crossover>>.

François Lindemann, jazz pianist, was born in Lausanne-Switzerland on September 17- 1950.
~ After some years spended in his teenage at the Lausanne Conservatory he then followed as an autodidact. He discovered improvisation and jazz music by listening to Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Clifford Brown and the John Coltrane Quartet in the sixties.

  He realized that these musicians played their own music and decided to form his own group and to write his own compositions. Very interested in the "free jazz movement" of the late sixties, he lived and played that way in clubs of his native country. Then he founded CM4, a quartet with more elaborated forms with which he played clubs and festivals in France and Switzerland between 1974 and 1981.

  Composer and leader of all the groups he formed as the F.Lindemann QUINTET (1985), the OCTET (1989), with, among others, the trumpet player Matthieu Michel and trombonist Robin Eubanks. Added with an Alpine-horn quartet since 1991, this group played during 4 years in many festivals and theatres of Switzerland, France, Belgium and USA.

  Beside these jazz groups, he also played (1981 to 1990) numerous concerts in pianos duets with the late Sebastian Santa Maria. He founded 
PIANO SEVEN in 1986. This unique group of seven Steinways and percussions filled concert-halls of many countries as Thailand, Singapore, Egypt, France, Switzerland and China these last 12 years by playing compositions written by all the members of the band.

  Interested by mixing the music of different parts of the world, François created a show including his own quartet and seven percussionists, dancer and singer from Thailand. Created in 1997 in Bangkok, this show came twice in Europe for concerts and festivals and is still available.

  He now concentrates on the E.L.P. Trio and work on several projects with small bands as trios or quartets.

  He played with numerous well known names of the US jazz scene as: Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Alvin Queen, Longineu Parsons, the late Woody Shaw, Curtis Fuller, Glenn Ferris and Robin Eubanks.

  Recorded more than a dozen LPs and CDs of his own music, composes for the children's theatre and contemporary ballet companies.

Hélène Tysman, pianiste

~ Saluée par la presse internationale pour son « toucher chaud à la sensibilité rêveuse » (The New York Times), son jeu « poétique » (Daily Telegraph) et son interprétation de Chopin « mêlant  ferveur et éloquence » (Gramophone Chopin Express), Hélène Tysman reçoit un prix lors du prestigieux Concours International Chopin de Varsovie en 2010. Elle s’affirme dès lors comme l’une des plus prometteuses pianistes de sa génération. Quelques années auparavant, elle remporte le Premier Prix au Concours International Chopin de Darmstadt (Allemagne), et obtient de nombreux autres prix en Angleterre, Allemagne, Chine et aux Etats-Unis. Elle est également lauréate des Fondations Cziffra à Senlis (France) et Chopin à Hanovre (Allemagne).

Issue du Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (classe de Bruno Rigutto), elle a poursuivi ses études à Cologne, Vienne, Hambourg, puis Weimar avec pour principal mentor Grigory Gruzman, ainsi que les conseils de Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Oleg Maisenberg, Gyorgy Sebök ou encore Dmitri Bashkirov.

Elle se produit depuis en récital et en soliste avec orchestre (Thüringen Philharmonie Orchester, orchestre d’Avignon, Riverside Symphony Orchestra, etc…), en musique de chambre ou avec chanteur, dans les plus grandes salles en France et à l’étranger (salle Gaveau à Paris, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center de New York, Cairo Opera House en Egypte, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, Neue Weimar Halle en Allemagne, Philharmonie de Varsovie, City Hall Theater à Shanghai,…).

Régulièrement invitée par la radio et la télévision, elle a enregistré plusieurs disques salués par la critique, tant en solo (Chopin volumes 1 et 2 chez Oehmsclassics) qu’en musique de chambre avec les solistes de l’Orchestre de Paris (Insédens Record). Cet automne elle sort un nouveau disque solo consacré à Ravel (« Des Antiques aux démons ») pour la Deutschlandradio Kultur Berlin et le label Klarthe/Harmoni Mundi.

En 2017 elle se produira à la Philharmonie de Paris avec l’orchestre Pasdeloup, ainsi qu’aux USA, en Asie, et en Europe.

Attirée par d’autres horizons artistiques, elle collabore avec des comédiens tels que Francis Huster, Dominique Pinon, Jacques Gamblin ou Michel Robin. Elle a créé un spectacle avec le conteur-chanteur Yanowski du Cirque des Mirages (en tournée 2013-14 pour les Jeunesses Musicales de France) et s’associe régulièrement avec des récitants lors de concerts-lectures.

~ Pianist Marie-Martine Bollmann was born in Bordeaux, France. From an early age, she showed great interest in music and started to play the piano with promising talent.

 By the age of 15, having completed her musical studies at the Conservatoire National de Région of Bordeaux, she went on to perfect her skill and knowledge at the Ecole Normale of Music in Paris in Serge Petitgirard’s class. There she obtained a Concert Degree.

 Marie-Martine speaks fluent German, English and good Italian and this has enabled her to travel throughout Europe and broaden her musical knowledge. She attended Master Classes, working with Germaine Mounier at the Mozarteum of Salzburg (Austria), with Vitaly Margoulis in Freiburg (Germany) and with Guido Agosti at the Accademia Chigiana in Sienna (Italy). She also worked with two great masters, Eliane Richepin and Catherine Collard. She participated in the Musical Festival of Flaine in Haute-Savoie, where she met some of the greatest European contemporary artists. There, she played with Federico Mondelci, a well-known Italian saxophonist and conductor.

 Having made the decision to focus her career on soloist performances and chamber music, in 1985 Ms. Bollmann became a member of the Pro-musica Association, supported by the French Ministry of Culture. This association has resulted in her performing with various music groups in Aquitaine.

 Currently, Ms. Bollmann performs with solists of the National Bordeaux-Aquitaine Orchestra and the violinist Liza Kerob, supersolist at the Philharmonical Monte Carlo Orchestra. She plays regularly with the well-known Russian cellist, Mark Drobinsky since 1997, and in various French festivals and theaters, such as Festival “les pianos Folies” du Touquet, Festival des Jeudis Musicaux de Royan, and abroad (England, Germany, Portugal, Italy..).

 Ms. Bollmann has also performed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates with Samuel Coles, English solo flutist, the Bordeaux Wind Ensemble for the Dubai Concert Committee, the Abu Dhabi Concert Committee and at the French Embassy in Abu Dhabi. She played at the festival of chamber music in Essaouira, Morocco. She is Artistic Director of the Académie Jean-Sébastien Bach in Bordeaux, France.

 

~ Cellist Mark Dobrinsky was born in Baku, Russia and studied with Mstislav Rostropovich at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He was awarded the first prize at the International Competition of Munich. He taught at the Gnessine Institute and left the USSR in 1974 to go to Israel before finally settling down in Paris.

 Mark Drobinsky has been a guest performer at the most prestigious festivals. He has been hailed by critics as one of the masters of the cello. Although he has a firm hold on the classical repertory, he is also passionately interested in discovering new works, and is an ardent champion of 20th-century music: H. Sauguet, H. Dutilleux, A. Schnittke, D. Milhaud, J. Dorfman, F. Kaufman, A. Rabinovitch, G. Zanon.

 Since 2000 he has participated in the Martha Argerich Festival in Lugano (Switzerland) every year and in 2003 he performed at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. In 2009, Mr. Drobinsky participated in the LUGANO-PARIS Festival at La Salle Pleyel.

 In 2010 he played at “Mozarteum”–Salzburg Festival, La Roque d’Antheron, Pietrasanta Festival, as well at the Festivals of Savoy and Mediterranean. He has conducted master-classes in South Korea, Monaco, Sau Paulo, Mexico–City, Buenos-Aires, Japan, the Bahamas, Johannesburg, Geneva, Siena, Portogruaro (Italy), and elsewhere.

 Mr. Drobinsky plays an Italian cello made by Carlo Antonio Testore in 1748. His music can be found on CDs edited by EMI, Talents-Record, Gallo and Cypres.
